Oscars

The 80th annual Academy Awards were held on February 24 in Los Angeles with make-up artist Didier Lavergne and hairstylist Jan Archibald winning the Oscar for Achievement in Makeup for their work on La Vie en Rose, a French-language biopic on the legendary singer Edith Piaf. Other nominees were Ve Neill and hairstylist Martin Samuel for Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World’s End and Rick Baker and Kazuhiro Tsuji for Norbit.

Lavergne and Archibald, aided by Dave White’s internal and external prosthetic creations, took actress Marion Cotillard from age 18 to age 47 in the film. The Oscar win was a first for the pair.
